The number of users of an airport and the population density at an airport seems to me to be some of the biggest factors in how noisy an airport is.

Airports were less noisy when they had a higher proportion of their floor space being carpeted.

Some airports are less noisy just because they tend to do fewer loudspeaker announcements than other airports.
