Too funny, I just booked a stay there today.

Continuing the Belmond theme, while not a typical hotel, I think their trains would qualify for this thread (yes, I understand the new Simplon-Orient Express is not the same as the original Orient Express).

I'm also going down to the Inn at Perry Cabin (Maryland) this summer and in doing some research while making my reservation, I found out they are part of a list of historical US hotels that the National Trust for Historic Preservation keeps. There are some interesting (and some questionable) hotels listed, but they provide a very nice blurb on each one and why it's part of the program. Do they compare to Le Grand Controle and the various palaces of the world? No, but still historical in their own right.
