That MAY have been the reason, but they took their time doing it. That crash was in May 1979 and I know that the flight deck cameras were still there as late as August 1981 and I'm pretty sure long after that. Channel 11 ATC was still there in the early 90s as I remember a co-worker who would sometimes catch the sound of here ATC hubby when flying on AA.

BTW, I'm guessing that the actual connection to the IFE system would be pretty simple and may even be there already and just not used.
