I already had a Freedom Flex and CFU and the rep said I couldn't have two of the same card (which I didn't think was true, but I wasn't confident enough to push or call another rep). He said that if I wanted to downgrade the CSR, that the close/consolidation would be the only option - first time doing this, so I went with it. If need be, I'll apply for a different Chase card (IHG Premier) for now and come back to the CSP.
