I've seen the large strollers gate-checked before. By full-size i'm imagining the kind that could have a baby carrier snap onto it (part of a stroller "system"). Not a huge issue once at the gate or in the jetway, just "more weight".

Security MAY make it be wanded much like a wheelchair, since it wouldn't fit through security belt.

Just give yourself an extra 2-3 minutes for security and you shouldn't have an issue at the gate.
