In my case the credit was posted two days later. It was for a prepaid hotel (but refundable until like 7 days in advance) I booked on Dec 20 and credit posted on Dec 22. The actual stay has not happened yet.

Did you book a flight, hotel, or rental car? that may provide some data points.
