Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King Classic on points and got King Premium Corner City View (was a slight hiccup as described below, nothing major)

Got daily Evian water from housekeeping

How are the rooms?
Club room I was upgraded to in April 22(before new IHG One program) was 'fresher' (more recent) than the premium room I got, but view with wall-to-wall windows in this room was much better. Saw all the fireworks going off in the city on NYE from our bed which was fun. Shower in tub with shower curtain is disappointing at this price point in 2023.

How is the exec. lounge?
Great, like my first visit last year. Service overall was more formal than in San Diego but excellent (especially Luis in the afternoon/evening). Standard breakfast spread, smoked salmon, yogurt parfaits, decent viennoiseries. Canapés in the evening had nice presentation (from Luce restaurant downstairs which I believe has a Michelin star) but food was more substantial in San Diego in the evening. They have a sweet table at night which I did not try. Alcohol only available in the evening (you can ask for a mimosa after 10AM as well).

What was good and what was bad?

Good
Great recognition of IHG One benefits, did not have to ask for anything
Convenient location (walkable to market street, Powell, Embarcadero, public transport options numerous as well)
Great housekeeping with nightly turn down service (love the little postcards they leave with descriptions of different SF neighbourhoods)
Bonus decent Irish pub across on the corner!

Bad
This is more of a meh than a bad, but the day before we checked in (December 30), I saw in the app that I was upgraded to 1 King Bedroom Suite with West View, one of the nicer rooms in the hotel. Was pretty happy to see that, the next day (December 31) I saw the room we were eventually given above. There were no suites at all for sale for that night on the app when I checked before checking-in.
I think a mistake was made (RA upgrade), or since these suites have a view of the NYE Embarcadero fireworks, someone must have paid $$$$ to the hotel at the last minute (it was a zoo at the check-in desk on the evening of the 31st) and they changed my upgrade. Either way, showing it and removing it is bad form (like taking candy from a baby ) but it did not detract from our stay. Process should be improved, guest should never have their upgrade downgraded before check-in.

Check-in agent was ready to give me a suite when I mentioned this but none were available (which was the truth).

EDIT: I sent an email to the hotel mentioning the upgrade weirdness (was very positive email saying I was happy with the stay, just curious, did not ask for any compensation) and they responded with a nice gesture (as well as an explanation, because of the rain storms over NYE, some guests extended their stay which makes perfect sense) for my next stay there which was unexpected but much appreciated.

Kudos on the AGM that responded quickly to my email. Makes me like this hotel even more

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Yes, I have been here twice in the last year and always enjoy my stays here
