Hpmh, you quote a sentence about "agents." But Alaska is a "carrier." It is obliged to put the baggage information into the email, not merely link to a web page. See
14 CFR 399.85(c): "Carriers must provide this information in text form in the e-ticket confirmation."
"A fee hard coded in an email will not dynamically update if AS decides to change baggage fees, potentially leading to even more confusion down the line." Well, the email is supposed to be ACCURATE. It's supposed to incorporate customer-specific information (class of service, elite status, route, etc.). It does indeed need to "dynamically update" based on all of that. In any event, if Alaska raises its bag fees between a ticket sale and travel date, it is obliged to honor the fees in effect at the time of ticketing. There's a DOT reg on point though I can't immediately remember the rule.
Is your experience, Hpmh, that Alaska only links to its own site, and doesn't put bag fee information into email? That's what I saw in my recent eticket confirmation emails, but it's rather puzzling since ,as I mentioned above, the DOT regs require better.
