On the flip side, being primarily MSP based, I've had north of 45k (all UA metal) multiple times in the last 10 years, and two years out of 10 just a few $ shy of 50k, and have not received an invite.

My travel pattern is stable with 3 -4 trips in paid J per year to Europe and mostly domestic travel in mid level economy for the rest of the spend. If it were X% in market, I'm sure that spend would be high for MSP.

I'm certain that my travel patterns being 80% domestic on mid to high level economy fares and then a few J trips to Europe are what is being examined, and not just total $ in market.

I know my spend isn't what meets the criteria, so never expect an invite, untill I cross 4mm sometime in the next 2-3 years, although some of the really low spend reported here has me intrigued.
It seems highly likely that how lucrative a flyer is plays a substantial role in the GS decision. The first year my wife made GS was at 35K-40K flying out of EWR, BUT every single ticket was in the premium cabin.
