Well... the REASON is - my wife and 3-year-old BOTH prefer to sit next to each other. So my choices are:
1) Sit in Biz & have my wife sit in Y. (but then I feel like a d***)
2) Sit in Y & have my wife & kid sit in biz (but then I'm paying for a biz seat for no reason)
3) Buy 3 biz seats (same con as above, except more expensive)
4) Buy 2 Y seats, but have my wife come back and get the kid mid-flight.
I might start a new thread to ask this similar, but different question: Can/should someone sitting in J, be allowed to get a kid, sitting with spouse in Y, mid-flight to sit on their lap?
I know some would disagree -----

But this makes no sense. Obviously kids are allowed to sit on laps during flight, even if they are required to have their own seat, while two adults would not be allowed to do that.

I'd understand if the person was getting free food or a free seat, but would you say the same if it's just a kid trying to sleep with his mom?
