In Die Hard 2, whilst holding over IAD, they tune into local TV and put that (I think The Simpsons?) on the screens. Historically (circa 1990), was this actually possible? Could an aircraft receive a live broadcast from the ground below?
I recall an airliner that was in a holding pattern in the US to burn off fuel before a belly landing - the cabin crew tuned the TV screen onboard to the local news and so the passengers were able to watch their own drama unfold and learn more then what the two at the pointy end was saying
