Was bumped onto AZ for FCO-JFK yesterday because LX 38 ZRH-SFO cancelled. The contrast in meals on the equivalent route is remarkable.

We start with an amuse bouche of "Creamy pecorino romano cheese, accompanied by crispy bread chips and a diced pear slightly spiced with ginger and chili." Definitely a little oversold in that a diced pear is not the same as a morsel of diced pear, and the bread chip was singular, but hey, the "slightly" was pretty honest.

Then for Antipasti, I had the Piedmontese Traditional Rabbit - "Slow cooked rabbit in its aromas, frayed and marinated in Evo oil, served with crunchy celery, Taggiasca olives, and a light basil pesto." This was utterly delicious - possibly the best rabbit I've ever eaten (okay, I don't eat rabbit very often, but still). Not pictured, I also tried the other option - the Square Pepper Millefeulle, described as "Millefeuille of square peppers [hah] on toasted aubergine and red tuna mousse." It was also outstanding.

This was followed by a Primi of Raviolo Del Plin with Cervere's Leek and Potatoes - "Raviolo "del plin" with Cervere's Leek and potatoes in puff pastry with spinach on "Bra duro" cheese cream and smoked bacon crumble." Again, absolutely delicious.

The option, which I neither saw nor tried, was a Tradtional Lombardy Rice Pie with Ossobucco Ragout in Gremolata.

The Secondi I went for was the John Dory Fillet Fish with Flavored Potatoes - "San Pietro fish served with sauteed tomatoes, caper flowers, Taggiasca olives and sprig dill, topped with bread crumble." So the description didn't even match the title, but who cares, it tasted really good.

Then to finish, I first had the Italian Dairy Experience - "A cheese tasting experience with a selection of ancient Italian PDO cheeess, acommpanied by quince jam and chestnut honey. Pecorino di Pienza, Bitto, and Parmigiano Reggiano PDO Vacche Brune aged 24 months" - again, absolutely excellent. And yes, that's proper table service you see below. Not a tray to be seen.

And then, because I have a sweet tooth and they had plenty extra, I also went for the Chocolate Bavarian - "Bavarian Cream with gianduja chocolate on passion fruit coulis" - again, excellent.

This was as good a meal as I've had in the air. ITA for the win! Sorry for polluting this thread, but the EWR-FCO pictures forced me into it...
