I think the question shows shows you're not going to tell us what you actually did.
There may be a linguistic issue here, but I have no idea what "violates the rewards program" means. I think there are scenarios where a customer is not entitled to a refund of annual fee and is fortunate that the forfeiture of points and annual fees is the only negative consequence he suffers.
