Very hit or miss in terms of "warmth." There was one fantastic SD I had on a recent flight that would carry the bread back and forth from the galley which I assume was to keep it warm. Good luck to those sitting towards the end.
A better question would be to ask why the butter is never thawed or melted but rather ice cold.....Cant they keep it separate instead of catering placing it on the tray.
I've started to put my butter under my hot plate for a few minutes to thaw it.
