I was actually saying it would make more sense to me NOT to go the status match & challenge route, but earn Elite status by crediting 40.000 *A airline partner miles that I have already booked and planning to book soon. Those 2 tickets would be useless in terms of the status match & challenge, which dictates at least 1 TK metal international flight within the 1st 4 months, 15.000 TK metal miles in the following 8 months and 37.500 TK/*A airline partner miles in the 2nd year.
I intend to fly to BOG and from BOG to MDE and to AUA on AV tickets. Then return on TK from BOG through PTY and IST to AMS. How would TK calculate those flights? AMS-IST-BOG and BOG-PTY-IST-AMS?
As I would have already qualified for M&S Elite with my SQ and SK tickets, 1.000 welcome and purchased miles, I assume that, calculating a minimum of 1.600 miles per segment and Elite status factor of 160% in booking class J, I would earn:
1.600 (AMS-IST) + 6672 (IST-BOG) + 1.600 (BOG-PTY) + 6730 (PTY-IST) + 1.600 (IST-AMS) = 18.202 miles; 18.202 x 1,6 = 29.123 miles.
Even without 1.600 miles for the BOG-PTY segment I would end up with:
1.600 (AMS-IST) + 6672 (IST-BOG) + 6730 (PTY-IST) + 1.600 (IST-AMS) = 16.602 miles; 16.602 x 1,6 = 26.563 miles. Still enough to renew M&S Elite for 2 years...
EDIT:
I just realize that you are suggesting to get the status match and instead of fullfilling the challenge, just qualify in the regular way as I had planned. That is a hybrid approach I haven't encountered anywhere yet. Would that work? Has anyone done so? Please advice...
TK status match is currently coming with challenge which requires at least 1 TK flight and 15.000 status miles to get extended..
Since you have already booked partner airline flights that give 40.000 miles there is no need to status match. Sign to M&S on the same month when you have the first flight. As soon as your status to Elite would be updated, a new period of membership starts and you can fly those 25.000 required in the first year.
AMS-IST is 1358 miles, so you will get 2172 miles with TK status. AMS-IST-BOG and return is correct calculation and that exceeds 25.000 status miles needed for re-qualification.
