There was no reason why interactive maps of airports had to be accessed via the app. It just happened to be the only way to access them as far as I know. I regularly used the interactive maps, esp. that of FRA, to answer questions in the FRA connection thread.

I had the beta app on my phone for a while but have now deleted it. I couldn’t do simple things like online check-in. I was asked for entry documents which I didn’t require and there was no way to continue. Fortunately I was travelling with a tablet with the current app which I used to check-in online and sent the BP to my phone. I have reported other problems I encountered as well but in the end decided it wasn’t worth the hassle.
