That makes sense. I feel like maybe there was a miscommunication/misunderstanding and the situation you've suggested seems quite plausible. However, in two instances, the customer service people told us that it was ok to transfer the miles when the flights became available :/ (AND we have done it this way previously + miles transferred almost instantaneously) In any case those miles are now in our Asia Miles, so crossing our fingers we get our upgrades eventually.
