Cathay lost our upgrade after transferring miles

We were waitlisted to be upgraded for a few flights (from Premium Economy to Business for our long haul and Economy to Business for short haul). Funny enough the customer service person who helped us forgot to upgrade our returning short haul so we were waitlisted on all our flights except for one. Lo and behold, CX called my husband three times this morning (all missed because we don't pick up unknown numbers) to ask for our miles (we didn't have enough miles to upgrade as we wanted to transfer them from American Express only when we know when an upgrade is available). After calling them back, we communicated that we will immediately transfer the miles and asked to be also waitlisted and upgraded for that return short haul flight. So we put in all 200,000+ miles needed into our Asia Miles account (transferred seamlessly), spent the rest of the day trying to get ahold of someone on the CX side only to be transferred to either a wrong number or being told that someone will call us back. I tried again in the afternoon and immediately got a hold of a person, only to now be told that those flights that they said were finally available for upgrade don't exist!!!!!!!!!! The odd thing is that we were upgraded for that return short haul flight though. Anybody have had this blunder happen to them? Am I missing something? Did I do something wrong?

I just want to get to the bottom of what actually happened and nobody could tell. Was there a miscommunication? Did they tell us there was an upgrade available but not? Did we lose our upgrades between the time they called us and the time we finally got ahold of them? Now apparently they are emailing some other person with "urgent" on it to figure this out for us but honestly don't know what it's gonna do. Dealing with Cathay Customer Service has always been such a frustrating experience and so much more now.

If you are reading this, thank you for entertaining my ramble.
