Thanks everyone for the comprehensive roundup! I've decided to go the BA route. Access to lounges on domestic US flights swings it for me, and I don't think AA will be upgrading Platinums often on routes I fly. Will treat myself to some Premium Economy tickets when they're not too expensive. Just wish BA would upgrade their website and app to the quality of the AA ones!
