Ticketing Issue: eCredit for one; cash for another

I just wanted to confirm some odd (it is the system) explanations I heard from a Delta agent...Attempting to book a $315 flight (per person) for both my wife (PM) and I (DM). She has an eCredit ($330) from a previous flight so we wanted to use that; understanding it would cover her ticket and then leave a $15 balance on her eCredit as that eCredit can't be used on my ticket.

What the agent told me was if one passenger uses an eCredit the other must use an eCredit too to get on the same PNR. So in my case, since I don't have an eCredit we will be on separate PNRs. She mentioned they will link them but that (from my understanding) doesn't help her when it comes to complementary upgrade queue so it is more likely I would get upgraded and not her. That limitation (both must have eCredits to be on same PNR) seems crazy to me.... Any experience with this? or quick and easy way to get a eCredit?
