Yep that's exactly what happened. Saw the U space online, tried to book, didn't work. Called AS, they booked TPAC Leg in PE and Intra Asia leg in Biz. Then I tried to change existing booking online and i don't recall exactly but I think it showed no dice. Then looking on CX website and it showed waitlisted, then the TPAC leg fell off, then this morning it turned into "I" business.
So it was AS phone agent booked the itinerary in PE/J but charged the J mileage and taxes?
Mine experience was it booked into PE on both the SFO-HKG and HKG-BNE legs, with PE miles / taxes charged, with both seats shown as Business Class waitlisted on CX site. Never even see the reservation shown on AS site, nor receive any email. i.e. No AS ticket was ever issued. A day later called to find out why there was no AS email, was told there was no seat and AS suggested to cancel the booking.
