Hi,
I'm looking to try and book the complete journey through Qatar Privilege Club using Avios.
I have considered booking the "domestic" flight separately, but having myself been on the receiving end a few times of connecting flights being booked separately and ending up missing flights (fortunately all work related flights but I saw the costs that the company incurred to rebook me on another flight at short notice!!), I am reluctant to add this risk. In addition, there is the added risk of having to claim baggage, exit security and then clear security if on a separate booking.
I did notice that the MEL option would offer a far better frequency of flights, but again, it only takes the cancellation of the chosen flight to potentially put the entire journey at risk. In one of my examples noted above, I had 6 hours to connect, yet due to cancellation of the next flight as well on the same connecting route (would have given me 3 hours transit time), I ended up arriving at the connecting airport just in time to see my flight back to the UK taking off!!!
As I mentioned, BA are wanting double the Avios for booking the SYD-MEL-DOH-MAN route (90k) as opposed to the 45k Avios for a SYD-DOH-MAN routing, so just needing to check if it can be dome more "economically" with Qatar.
Many thanks.
