Yes. I would never consider crediting any flight to AC, so it was important to have it changed before departure (done via OLCI).
Last time was on the BKK PY fare last month. Since we were booked in O, cleared the eupgrade as E35+companion on all 3 waitlisted AC segments after removing the associated Aeroplan number at OLCI.
We kept our #1/2 waitlist spots and cleared ahead of SEs presumably in a lower booking class (there was one loudly proclaiming at the gate he was SE and where is his upgrade)
