Did not Clear

My trip was SEA-PDX-SBA in F booked with miles. We boarded the 6:00 a.m. SEA-PDX, then got hit by a creeping mechanical delay. I rebooked on the nonstop SEA-SBA when it became clear I'd misconnect in Portland. Although I was number one on the upgrade list, F remained full at 12 and I did not clear. I did have seat 6D with an empty middle seat so the flight was quite comfortable. I'd redeemed 30K miles for DEN-SEA-PDX-SBA; after contacting Customer Care I received a refund of 15K miles, which I though was fair, especially since I'd had F DEN-SEA and enjoyed the Alaska Lounge in Seattle preflight.
