Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked classic reward for two nights (New Year's Eve - 66.000pts instead of 600€, second night 44.000pts instead of 400€) - received Twin Beds Classic Room.
Two days prior to arrival I sent them an email asking for an option to add Lounge access and they quoted 80SGD / pax and night. I replied whether they'd have a special offer for Diamond Ambassadors and they replied "we can offer a onetime rate of 100SGD for all pax for the stay and I accepted the offer.
We were given late checkout at 16:00, and in the room we found a coconut (full of coconut water) and a double cookie.
How are the rooms?
Rooms are very modern and one can clearly see that this is a new hotel. But the 24sqm room is a bit too tiny for me. The rooms have floor to ceiling windows and two kind of window blinds to get some privacy. minibar is empty. nespresso coffee machine and 6 nespresso capsules are available, but only two milk portions.
How is the exec. lounge?
The best part of the lounge is the outside area. club menu selection is attached to the post.
Breakfast is a typical lounge selection - eggs can be ordered a la carte. Canapes during happy hour were ridiculous - not worth the visit - afternoon tea items were delicious and plenty.
What was good and what was bad?
club staff was very attentative - hovever service was very slow even in an almost empty lounge - we waited up to 10 minutes until dinks were served. one time I took a coke zero can from the fridge, was approached by a club attendant who asked whether I needed help. I said "no - I am fine with that coke" - he asked if I'd like ice and a glass. I answered yes. then he took the coke can from me. I went back to my seat. 10 minutes later I received the can and the glass with ice cubes. It happened again when we ordered coffee. they have nespresso pro machines where the serving of one coffe takes not longer than 20 seconds - still, we waited 10 minutes until I went in and asked about the coffee. 5 minutes later we received the drinks. meanwhile we had finished the sweet stuff from the afternoon tea servings.
At checkout they charged 100SGD per night for lounge access rather than the quoted 100SGD for the stay. I insisted and showed the mail with the lounge access quote for the stay. the agent insisted that I was wrong and misunderstood the mail (how can you misunderstand a quote of 100SGD for the stay - they didn't qoute per night). after some discussion she removed one day lounge access from the bill. I didn't like her attitude as I was very friendly and she insisted that it was my fault of misunderstanding their email.
After checking out we were sitting in the Quay Lounge (situated between reception and elevators/club lounge) when one of the club staff saw us and invited us back into the club - she said "come with me and join us in the club. we will provide you drinks and we'd be happy to serve the canapes later. it's much nicer to wait in the club than in the lobby"
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Hotel prices over New Year's Eve were ridiculously high everywhere in Singapore - so I was suprised and happy that one reward room was available. At first for 72.000 points for the first night and 55.000 points for the second night - after a few days another room reward room was offered at a lower rate - so I canceled and rebooked for the lower rate. For the two nights the points redemption was very good value and saved a lot of money.
I am sure I will return and liked the stay - would I book the lounge package again? most probably not - especially at their list price.
