To me, nearly doubling the cost of your ticket for a few marginal advantages doesn't seem worth it, but everyone has different assessments of value. Other than additional leg room, the seats themselves aren't really any different than those in the rest of the economy section of the plane.
For a non-elite flyer, check in at precisely 24 hours before the flight and check then for exit row availability, as elites who have chosen the exit row upon booking may have been moved up to these seats or first class at this point.
