I was here last week and had a decent stay. I don't have much to add over and above other recent posts. I do think they have done a decent job with the refurb. I wouldn't feel embarrassed about taking friends here for a night now whereas in the past I wouldn't have done so given the nick the rooms were in
Agree with
hugolover on the lounge, which must be on its 3rd/4th iteration in the last 12 months in terms of F&B offerings. Platters odd and "meh" in quality despite the waffle in the fancy new menus. Pâté served only with breadsticks..? 3/4 Staff running around dealing with all of the various platter orders, spirits and other requests giving a slight ambience of chaos. The old buffet approach worked better and likely cost much less in staff cover front and back of house.
Weirdly, the old executive lounge is still there and has had 'Old" prepended to the sign. Who knows what is going on there
I feel for the reception staff in the coming months who will have to answer to irate guests on this £20 per room pool charge for what is the same pool with a paint job. Whoever on their management team thought this would fly after 30+ years of operation with largely the same pool with no charge needs their head examined.
