Currently have the following options booked:

Yamanochaya Hakone - Tsukimidai Room(Ajisai) Kaiseki -$630

Pros: Private onsen, close to train station

The Hakone Takuminoyado Yoshimatsu - Japanese Style room - $640

pros: better food allegedly, closer to sightseeing
cons: basic room, no private onsen, farther from train station.

I’m not sure if the private onsen is worth it considering we’ll likely stay at LXR Roku Kyoto for 2 nights afterwards where diamonds frequently get upgraded to rooms with private onsens. Then again I’m on the fence on staying there given the location and we’re first time visitors in Japan/Kyoto. Considering the Westin in Kyoto instead.

I would think our top priorities for the Ryokan would be 1. food quality 2. Views from room 3. Onsen

thanks!
FWIW we ate amazingly well at YamaNoChaya.
