I took USA —> NZ—> USA trip. The return one occurred after the new year. Thus, it earns PQF/PQP credits:
Award price: 60K miles,
Booking class: JN (business)
PQF: 3
PQP: 2010 (over water segment: 1532; other domestic flights, 391 and 87, respectively).

The first segment was on Air New Zealand; thus no credit.

I expected to earn less 600 PQP. So, there must be algorithm issues. Fortunately for UA, the award travel does not earn RDMs, which would be over 22K miles for 1K.
