And it sounds like there is a way around the issue, so I will probably gift her the status for a year and see how it goes. I don't think I will be able to do it again next year though. I think I saw where the # of loyalty points for the different selections are changing. I will have to research that again.
If she is likely only travelling 2 times on her own, if it is domestic travel, would perhaps the $200 credit be better and use to pay towards travelling in business rather than economy or systemwide upgrades topotentially travel in business. This might give something better than what gold gives.
