Steamship Heritage

The term purser debuted on steamships. He (always he back then) was the one who kept the ship's purse, namely passenger payments made on board. To the extent that air passengers pay for drinks or Buy on Board meals, I guess "purser" might still be appropriate. In fact, maybe the term was resurrected for domestic midcons when BOB was introduced?
