Merging the two separate reservations into one reservation under one member's name is not a realistic expectation. On top of that, any time you alter an existing points reservation, the reservation reprices based on the new room availability and points rates, which can break the reservation irreparably. Better to leave well enough alone.
If your goal in trying to merge is for one member to get two elite qualifying nights (instead of each member getting one), that won't happen.
If your goal in trying to merge is to remain in the same room both nights, the hotel should, able to do this for you, especially if both reservations are for exactly the same room type. You may want to call the hotel ahead of time to link the reservations. The room assigner can then assign the same room to each reservation.
If your goal in trying to merge is get the benefits of the member who has a higher elite level (such as breakfast and/or lounge access for Platinum Elite and above) for both nights, the hotel MIGHT be willing to do this, even for two separate reservations. The names of both guests should be on both reservations.
Enjoy New York!
Thanks for your thoughtful response, I think my goal is more or less matches the second from your "IF" (

I want us redeem the two certificates (one from her account, one from mine), and we don't want to move to another room for the second night (the packing stress, etc). However, I have Platinum status (she only has Gold), if the hotel would reciprocal the benefits for both nights would be great, but if not for the 2nd night (under her account), I understand.
What the most we wanted to know is, on this scenarios, who earns the stayed night towards to next year's status. Me? Her? Or, each of us earns one night? Thanks.
