Stay Report - 12/26 to 12/29

Location: Absolutely perfect. Right on the Promenade de Anglais so you're across the street from the beach, you're surrounded by restaurants (a quick two or three block walk north and you've got more dining options than you can shake a stick at), there's a bus stop a block away and a tram stop within a 10 minute walk. NCE is about a 15 minute drive to the west.

Hotel: Really gorgeous. A classic façade but very modern inside with a gorgeous lobby. Most services including the restaurant, bar, indoor/outdoor pool and gym are on the 3rd floor but there's also a sauna and steam room on the 6th floor. There are enough elevators and they're large enough by European standards that I never had a long wait. Annoyingly there is no lounge.

Check In: I had been proactively upgraded from a standard King to a Deluxe King. The agent on duty was very friendly and explained all the benefits to me.

Room: Really nice and a great size for Europe. There was an entry way with two closets, a separate WC and large bathroom with a shower stall and tub, a large bedroom with two armchairs, a desk, a large TV with Chromecast and outlets next to the bed. There was also a lovely balcony with a view of the water and the pool. Everything worked as expected including the Wifi. There was a nice welcome amenity too.

Dining: Breakfast was really good. They had a buffet with hot options that changed each day but tended to include eggs, breakfast meats, smoked salmon, cold cuts (also changed daily), cheese, cereal, yogurt and breads plus candy for the kids. They also had made to order eggs, omelets, pancakes and crepes.

Service: Unfortunately I had a lot of issues with service at this hotel. The staff to a man are extremely friendly they just lack follow through. The following things were ordered and forgotten:

- My wife's soda at breakfast
- Ice. I asked the front desk for a bucket (the only way to get it) and it never showed up
- My wife was ignored for 15 minutes at the bar until she got a drink
- Worst of all, a cab to the airport. The night before our departure we asked the concierge to have a cab for us for 4:30 AM the next day. I watched him write this down on the cab ordering pad. The next morning, no cab. The staff on duty had no idea what to do. Luckily I was able to get an Uber.

The service issues stuck in my craw a bit. The cab issue could have been disastrous. Still, the stay was more good than bad so I'd be back.
