The way auto seat assignments work at check in is frankly, ridiculous. Flying CW and checked in at the time of my connecting flight TO London, and literally ALL the seats are taken and my partner and me are sitting behind each other. Are you telling me that literally everyone except us pre-paid seats? Obviously not. Why it couldnt just auto-assign us seats beside each other and the two other singles that are now sitting next to us next to each other instead is beyond me. This is in the new club suites.
We had the exact same issue happen on our outbound flights and just asked to swap on the plane, which worked. But such a hassle. I don't see how that's tacky AT ALL. I wouldn't mind getting asked - what's the same seat one row further up or behind to me?
Either dont charge for seat selection or don't let the auto-picker assign seats randomly, so couples can actually pick seats next to each other at check-in! And I blame the auto-picker because when I. Checked days ago, it already had the entire seat map blocked, even before we could've possibly picked seats. So clearly it assigned everyone seats back then already.
