You should see the queues on a Friday afternoon.
The only 'real' elite desks are opposite the main ticket counter and (at least on Friday's) are at bursting point. It used to take 5 mins tops to check-in luggage and join the security queue now, if you are unlucky, it can take over 30mins!
It gets even better if the SS machine spits out a card telling you to join the "problem case" queue around the corner from the baggage drop. As a Gold/Plat the best thing to do is to run down to the ElitePlus line at the ticket desk and beg for mercy. If you aren't a Gold/Plat you might as well go home. (Unless you turn up 3 hours early of course).
