Yes we are now booked on flight leaving tonight arriving 1/2. If it goes well make the cruise. If it doesn't, we are thinking now of joining cruise in Melbourne rather than scrambling to get to lax or SFO and then deal with lost luggage. The difference between a nonstop flight and a connecting flight, in terms of lost luggage, is much smaller than many people imagine. Yes, the more times a bag is touched, the more likely a problem is, but you’re talking about going from a 1% to a 2% chance of an issue, not 0% to 25%.
Getting to the west coast would increase your options in the face of yet another cancellation or delay, but (a) there’s no particular reason to believe that there will be another issue, and (b) with an entire planeful of people having been re-accommodated already, if there’s an issue on a SYD-bound flight tonight, it’s going to be slim pickings…
