Sure I've seen this elsewhere too, but to add my experience: I got a Gold Credit Card (no annual charge) before applying for the BA Amex P+. Having another Amex resulted in a reduction from the £120 fee p/a to £30.

I have only praise for Amex Customer Service too. So far.
