UGHHHH, I really wanted to like the Westin London - you all know how much I fancy the Westin brand and many of their old hotels that have seen better days. Unfortunately, despite a superb bed and friendly service, the Westin London City has far too many issues for me to recommend it. Here are my pros, cons, and photos:

Pros:
  • Fantastic bed - wonderfully plush mattress, wonderfully plush pillows, wonderfully plush covers (that were a nice mixture of thick but not so thick as to cause sweating)
  • No suites available when I asked at check-in, but I was given a Privilege King with a view of the Shard
  • Generally very friendly service at the front desk - they wanted to chat
  • No issue with 4 PM late checkout
  • Westin Club is open for breakfast and evening service - though, I did not really partake, both selections seemed decent when I walked through
  • Delicious hot chocolate machine in the lobby made some nice thick hot chocolate - so yummy
  • Loved the winter decorations, especially the polar bears
  • They still have White Tea toiletries
Cons:
  • Really terrible shower pressure - the rainfall head seemed clogged or something
  • Ridiculous non-openable sheers on the windows - I called down and they said this was for privacy with nearby offices - whatever, I know when to close curtains, but this creates a ridiculous lack of natural light in the room
  • Lots of the furniture was wobbly - seemed to be unevenness with the floor
  • One housekeeper scolding another loudly in the hallway
  • No prior communication on the North Entrance (go down the Huggin Hill alleyway), which meant I had to drag my luggage up and down the stairs of the bridge over Upper Thames to get to the South Entrance
  • Extra credit card charge over night - FD said I was charged 94 pounds for a bottle of wine from room service - they said they had to investigate - to their credit, 30 minutes later, they confirmed it was a mistake and removed the charge
  • Encouraged to take the restaurant breakfast as my welcome gift - was disappointed in the quality - hashbrown was inedible, omelet was also not very good, eggs and bacon and pain au Chocolat weren't too bad
  • No Internet TV OS - looked like some Chromecast functionality, but I didn't try it out
  • WiFi was horribly unstable with weak signal and often quite slow
Overall, there were too many issues here. The bed was so Heavenly, but the rest of the place needs some serious work to bring it up to snuff.
