Having eaten at Piper earlier in the year when we stayed at The Seabird, we returned earlier this week for a mid week dinner when in the area. We had made a reservation which in hindsight was sensible. There were a lot more people walking in off the street to get a table than on our previous visits.

Sadly I don't think we will be revisiting. The service got off to a suspect start when the drinks / wine list wasn't provided (I thought this was a SNAFU but saw other tables experience the same issue- very odd) and we overheard the server apologizing for the delay to the neighboring table.

The bar was painfully slow due to only having one bartender. It took nearly 30 minutes for a couple of glasses of wine to arrive. Sadly no one, including the manager, was jumping in to assist him. The server said they were short staffed but when we visited earlier in the year there was just one bartender.

At the hour mark I was beginning to wonder where our food was. It arrived shortly after- delivered by the head chef who, to his credit, jumped on server duties.

It took over 25 mins to get someone to take my credit card to pay the check.

The most baffling part was the, I presume, F+B manager (or at least The Piper manager) was just hovering around "managing" all evening rather than jumping in and supporting. A good example is when I stopped him to re-request an item that we had been waiting a while. Rather than do it himself, he finally tacked down our overworked server and reminded them to do it!

All in all, it was a bizarre experience. The food was good. It is just a shame the service wasn't great, let down by being understaffed. Our server was very apologetic about the whole thing.
