In answer to your question about a possible misconnect: If the misconnect is clearly not weather related in any way (mechanical, etc.), there is a Westin in the DTW airport. They may not voucher you into it, but you could submit the receipt and ask for reimbursement. Also in answer to your question, no, they aren't going to hold a flight for you (or any one or a few passengers).
