I grew up using a butterfly can opener. I had to google what they were called. I've never used anything else, so I have no point of comparison. I have never failed to open a can using one of these can openers. I'm pretty sure the can opener I've been using is older than I am (inherited from my parents) and I suspect it will outlive me. In reading some reviews, apparently sharp edges from the lid is a negative, but I've never really noticed that as a problem.

It costs all of $4. All metal construction. Weighs maybe 2oz or less. I don't think this is a category where spending more money really yields better results.
