North American domestic connection booking into economy not AA F?

I am trying to book a trip to LHR-SAN and at the same time maximise TPs via the BA Holidays offer.

Itinerary will be something like
LHR-DFW-SAN-DFW-LHR or LHR-SFO-SAN-ORD-LHR.

Trying to book in F via BA.com
Flight details show "Business booking class I, First booking class J" for the domestic sectors
But when I proceed to payment the domestic sectors say "First unavailable, we have given you the closest alternative", which then shows as "Economy standard" not Domestic First

If I choose the same itinerary LHR-DFW-SAN-DFW-LHR in F on AA.com, it books the domestic sectors into Domestic First on booking code I. Fare is the same

Is this an anomaly on the BA website, or will it really book into economy?
