Also, to the subject of this thread/OP, I’ve always been able to access the reservation using the BA record locator or ticket number.

Thank you both for replying! I was glad to know there are ways to prevent this, but also deal with it in my case. I sent a DM on Twitter as suggested and they replied a few hours later to state they'd made the change. Just selected my seats, so it worked like a charm. Thanks much!
