The thing that really ticks me off is when they eliminated the gold status that use to allow you to get soy milk without an upcharge. I don't go there much anymore since they don't have the tea I like and got rid of the sugar free cinnamon dolche syrup and have moved. There's at least five really good independent/locally owned coffee houses by my condo that have a lot better coffee and sugar free syrup options than starbucks that aren't any more expensive and a couple of them have a decent loyalty program (buy 10 drinks and the next one is free).
They did! I was probably one of those folks who would make 10 purchases of plain coffee, and use the free drink for more expensive Frappuccino’s. Honestly since they switched to a spend based program, I’ve felt very little incentive to engage with their rewards program. (Though if I get some incidental extra stars and points due to the new DL partnership, I won’t turn it down!)
