On a JFK-CDG I sat next to Dave Bartholomew, band leader for the Fats Domino Band (I had always admired them), as he was headed to a performance there while I was headed for a vacation. We were both in coach, though I suppose "Mr. Fats" was in F. Being as how we were both from New Orleans, we chatted quite a bit. Dave was in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and writer of my favorite Elvis Presley song, so I had to try hard not to be silly and star-struck. Meanwhile he was in awe of me because I was a graduate New Orleans' public academic magnet school. "Wow! You went to Franklin?" I was a good student so I think getting into Franklin wasn't nearly as hard as getting inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
