RJ900 on/before Jan 8th and E170 afterwards. Either way, you shouldn't have to gate check unless on the larger end of standard size carryon. Looks like OP is connecting to EWR after the 8th and the Republic E-jets look to use Concourse A (so no trip through tunnel will likely be required).
