When PE was introduced, some AmEx telephone representatives conflated PE with E+, and the passengers got lucky reimbursements not provided for under the Terms and Conditions.

As AmEx phone reps learn the difference, such mistaken reimbursements are far less likely to happen.
Thanks for the clarification. It is rather confusing the way they brand these things which is what prompted my question. I am trying to avoid TB since I actually have an Intl Flight coming on UAL so would really like to use credit. But would hate to have it not credited and then I've missed TB window as well.

So on my flight there appear to 3 Cabin Classes and a couple of preferred seat selection options in the 30-40USD range.

United Polaris® business
United Premium Plus℠
Economy Plus®
Recommended Economy Plus® seat

I understand that Polaris would not be credited as it is a clear cabin class change. And if I understand you correctly United Premium Plus is also a cabin class change and would not be credited. What about Recommended Economy Plus which interestingly enough is the same $320 as Premium Plus?

Thanks for your patience but just want to be clear before I select to give myself the best chance of the credit.
