Yes it's odd why Virgin would call it a status match when it patently isn't, and why they wouldn't make it a status challenge instead. It just seems a half arsed approach to me. Delta require proof of status and how you achieved it which I have no problem with at all. Virgin's half baked approach means I will cancel the flight that I had booked with them and I'll just go back to flying United.
Same, I dont even recall how I got VS silver, it might even have been a straight promo via something where if i took any virgin flight within 3 months Id automatically get silver. As it currently stands I have 1 upper class flight in reserve cancelled during covid, and I'm dropping from Gold to silver on ba in january, I thought this might be a good time to switch my flying over to VS. However, now I dont really see the point and might as well stick with BA.
