Holiday Inn Express & Suites Seattle Airport
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Seattle Airport
What is your Priority Club status?
Ambassador Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
In general yes. I had a late flight into SEA and also was not much in the hotel the next two days. Therefore I booked the HIX as this was less expensive than the Crowne Plaza. It is also located close to Angle Lake Station which is an easy and convenient way to downtown Seattle and via transfer to the bus the museum of flight..
Waiting time for the shuttle at the airport was not very long (leaves the hotels every 30 minutes at :00 and :30). It is only on demand during off peak times (around 10:00 to 17:00)
As another guest arrived with me on the shuttle at 23:15 and only one agent was available, I had to wait a couple of minutes. The hotel does not have a bar, so the welcome points were deposited automatically.
I had booked with points, as the suite with separate living and bedroom was available for the same points than the regular room but more expensive on a cash booking.
The suite had more or less the size of two room minus the space for the additional bathroom. After entering the room, the bathroom was to the left. Quite large with shower, sink and toilet. Water pressure was okay
The living room had a sofa which could be used as bed, a table an armchair, desk, a large fridge, sink microwave and the usual Keuling capsule machine. The desk also had a lamp an international socket, which so far I never experienced in a budget hotel in the US . A large flat TV was facing the sofa. Below the TV was an sideboard with drawers and a place to store the luggage.
The bedroom consists of bed, built in closet and another large TV with a sideboard with drawers. USB outlets were available below the TV in both rooms, at the bedside tables and the desk.
Mattress was okay. Quite firm which I like
A small fitness center is available on the mezzanine level. Breakfast is served from 05:30 to 09:30 on weekday and till 10:00 on weekends.
The lobby is next to the entrance. People waiting for the shuttle waited there. Not a place were you spend more time than necessary. Sockets and USB Chargers are availabe through the lobby and the breakfast area on various desk.
The lobby is however airy and with bright light and covers two floors.
Breakfast starts as 05:00, which is nice. Breakfast is served in the lobby.
It is of the lower quality with a lot of plastic utensils for one time use. Scrambled eggs, cheese omelette, oatmeal were available. Nothing outstanding and an average breakfast in my opinion. I only had it on the first and last day and skipped it on the second day, as I had to leave the hotel prior to 05:00. Service was okay, the buffet was restocked frequently. Coffee and juice from dispensers were available.
Check out was fast and friendly. A late check out till 14:00 was given without need to push for it.
Three elevators are available, which are very slow. After the first day, one elevator was out of service, which meant quite some waiting time.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked One Bedroom Suite and received exactly this room. There is to my understanding no higher room category.
How are the rooms?
The hotel is not very old and the rooms are in a good condition. But the finishings lack the details and care you would expect in a higher hotel.
My room was located on the third floor. The real desk was nice to have. However the internet speed was very slow. The connection to the internet was lost several times and the speed was also sometimes very slow. Especially during the night, it was nearly impossible to set up a stable VPN connection.
Water pressure of the shower was okay. A sliding door which really closes and not flooding of the bathroom. A big mirror was also available. Shower gel and shampoo were wall mounted (Dove). The separate bedroom hosted the large closet.
Both rooms had blinds which really coud darken the room.
The light switches are placed everywhere. So you had to walk around the room to switch them on and off.
Housekeeping is in my opinion not the best. Items (coffee capsules, towels, were only partly restocked, cleaning was very careless. I tipped 3 USD / night.
The flexible rate was 177 USD. I paid 21.000 points per night.
How is the exec. lounge?
N/A
What was good and what was bad?
Good
Suites are of good size with real desk
Good connection to public transport
Many sockets and USB ports
Windows could be opened
Staff is friendly and helpful
Parking is free
Neutral
room hardware and finishings
Slow elevators and stairs are not connected to the lobby.
Bad
Not safe in the room
Some shuttle drivers consider themselve to be little Juan Mario Fangios; not help with lugagge is offered.
Noise from other rooms could be heared, even from the room above.
Quality of breakast
Speed and quality of internet
Soundproofing
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The location is good. The rooms are of a good size and parking is free. Angle Lake Station is a five minutes walk away. Staff is friendly. Given the room rates and if I do not want to spend much time in the hotel, than I would stay there again. The problems with the internet, the low quality of soundproofing between rooms and the missing safe are the most important reasons for me not to stay there again.
