Well I just emailed them for a status match from BA gold and got this in response a couple of days ago:
Dear Aceman,
Thank you for your email.
Our status match programme gives other airline members the chance to experience our Silver/Gold status and to see if they like our service enough to start traveling with us as their main airline. The status match is only for a year and then the member is expected to maintain the status on their own.
Unfortunately, as you have been a Silver member with us, we couldn’t offer you a status match this is because you have to be able to maintain the status on your own. As your account has gone to our Red status this would indicate that you do not travel enough to maintain Silver/Gold.
I dont recall if that silver was via a status match or some kind of accelerated promo, but one thing is for sure it was a minimum of 5+ years ago.
